The Barley Studio team, led by Directors Keith Barley and Helen Whittaker, are strongly committed to supporting the arts and crafts, sharing skills and information with our peers and promoting the pleasure and knowledge of glass to a wider audience. Here in York, the team support the work of the Stained Glass Centre, of which Keith is a Trustee.
Keith, Helen and Alison regularly give lectures on stained glass design, creation and conservation to a variety of audiences. Recent events include international conferences such as the Corpus Vitrearum and national organisations such as the Ecclesiological Society, the ICON Stained Glass Group and TED. Helen participates in community projects, engages with schools and is a visiting tutor in stained glass design at the Prince’s School of Traditional Arts in London.
Both Keith and Helen are members of the Court (Executive Board) of the Worshipful Company of Glaziers, a leading City of London Livery Company. In 2017-18 Keith is the Master of the Company, one of the few practising glaziers to be given this honour. Helen is involved in the Stevens Architectural Glass Competition, chairing the panel of judges since 2016.
