The Barley Studio team are honoured to be working on this very special memorial window from St Lawrence’s Church in York.
Designed by the Arts and Crafts artist Joan Fulleylove in 1929-30, the window commemorates Thomas Ableson Harpley, sometime Vicar of the Church, and his son Robert Ableson Harpley, who was killed in the Battle of the Somme in July 1916.
A towering 8.5m high, the window features scenes of York and Amiens flanking a standing soldier crowned with the stars of Heaven. Above, the Holy Grail is shown surrounded by saints kneeling in adoration.
