Private Commission, Beverley, East Yorkshire

I was commissioned to design two door panels for the practice office of architect Andrew Sangwin in Beverley, East Yorkshire. Andrew’s profession suggested an architectural theme, one of his favourite architects being the Italian Carlo Scarpa. On researching his work, images of the ‘Tomba Brion’ near Treviso caught my eye through Scarpa’s use of the ‘vesica piscis’, important in both sacred geometry and Gothic architecture. The inclusion of the cartoon character ‘Oor Wullie’ hints at Andrew Sangwin’s Scottish roots and creates a delightful focus for the design.
